Ireland: Head, From Violence to Peace (maternity cover) Dublin

This role is responsible for the coordination, management and delivery of the organisation’s work on ‘From Violence to Peace’. The post holder will lead the growth and development of this area of work both within Christian Aid Ireland and Christian Aid globally. S/he will provide oversight and leadership for the implementation of the organisation’s global Peacebuilding Strategy and advisory support to strengthen work in this area. This includes strategic coordination of programme and policy work on violence and peacebuilding, allocation of related budgets and expenditure oversight, roll out of the Peacebuilding Strategy across the global organisation and the development of key external relationships to enhance Christian Aid’s impact in this area. The role holder will act as a key spokesperson and commentator on relevant issues and focus countries and will also help facilitate the flow of support-facing information on From Violence to Peace issues.

About you


  • Post graduate level degree in international relations, peace building, development studies or related areas.
  • Experience of working in international development and peacebuilding programming, including programme development, support, monitoring and reporting.
  • Extensive experience and proven competence in programme strategy, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Extensive programme/project and people management experience.
  • Experience of programme development, proposal writing and securing funding.
  • Excellent facilitation skills and ability to promote critical thinking and reflection.
  • Experience of budgets/financial management, ability to work with financial information
  • Significant experience of working within a large complex organisation and influencing decision making at senior management/board level across complex and diverse functions.

  • Significant knowledge and understanding of best practice in capacity development and learning.

  • Experience of delivering high impact reports to key stakeholders.

  • Strong knowledge of trends in donor funding models and strategies.

  • Track record in contract management, and meeting donor compliance and reporting standards

  • Track record of promoting culture change and organisational learning.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to discuss sensitive issues, influence and inspire others to take up new challenges.

  • A deep understanding of developing countries and the need for a strategic focus on From Violence to Pece and how the role of advocacy is an important part of influencing and supporting poverty eradication programmes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and negotiation skills.

  • Highly effective interpersonal and influencing skills – able to work collaboratively, build effective working relationships and inspire confidence from people at all levels throughout the organisation.

  • A creative, strategic and lateral thinker, able to combine strategic thinking and planning with practical implementation.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability.

  • Experience of developing a network of practitioners/community of practice with people working globally in different locations.

  • Ability to translate academic discourse into practitioner language.

  • Commitment to Christian Aid’s values, with a deep understanding of power relations, issues of inequality and gender.


  • Familiarity with partnership working and the role of civil society / faith based organisations in development / building peac
  • Experience working overseas on development and/or humanitarian programmes
  • Extensive experience of governance, peace building and human rights programming.
  • Basic fluency in Spanish, French or/and Portuguese
