Country Director, Afghanistan with Mission East
Location: Afghanistan, Kabul – with frequent travel to field locations
Contract: In view of both programme funding cycles and local contexts, Mission East offers fixed term contracts in our overseas programmes roles, with the possibility of further extension. For this senior role as Country Director, Mission East is keen to attract candidates with a longer term commitment to working in Afghanistan. We would ideally offer an initial 24 month fixed term contract, but would be willing to discuss a 12 month initial assignment, should a successful candidate prefer.
Terms: Expatriate contract and terms; unaccompanied position.
A starting date is envisaged ideally as soon as possible but will necessarily take into account ongoing restrictions linked to Coronavirus.
Mission East is an international relief and development organisation working in crisis-affected countries in the former Soviet Union, the Middle East and Asia. We deliver emergency relief during disasters as well as long-term development assistance. Mission East is based on Christian values and works to support vulnerable people and help local communities lift themselves out of poverty and marginalization. We work directly with our beneficiaries or through local and international partners. We constantly strive to strengthen the relevance, effect and sustainability of our programmes.
Mission East (ME) has been engaged in relief and recovery activities in Afghanistan since 2001, in the north-eastern provinces of Takhar, Baghlan and Badakhshan. The integrated, multi-sectorial programme is targeted towards implementing a variety of resilience-building measures including infrastructure rehabilitation, WASH, food security and livelihood development, and civil society capacity-building.

The position of Country Director provides an opportunity to work with a dynamic and diverse team in a multi-sectoral (WASH, livelihoods, food security, emergency response etc.) multi-donor programme, addressing humanitarian, early recovery and developmental needs in rural Afghanistan. The successful candidate will be an experienced leader and qualified specialist capable of supporting a growing and evolving programme in an increasingly sensitive and challenging operational environment. Able to demonstrate sympathy with Mission East organisational values, the successful candidate will be available to start as soon as possible.
